The Sports Leadership Academy is a programme designed to support school pupils to develop their skills and experience through sports coaching and officiating, enhancing skills for life and work. The project combines sports qualifications or awards with practical experience in a school or club setting, providing vital skills to help pupils flourish in education and employment.
If you are a pupil in S3 or above and are interested in developing your leadership skills through sport, we would like to offer you the opportunity to apply for a range of sports coaching courses.
We ran a very successful Sports Leadership Academy in June 2023, with over 90 young people attending and achieving qualifications.
We are looking forward to planning for next year's event. Let your Active Schools Coordinator know if you would like any more information.
In addition to the Academy we have a range of other volunteering and leadership opportunities, pupils and parents are encouraged to contact your Active Schools Coordinator for more information.
This project runs in partnership with Dundee & Angus College and all 8 Secondary Schools.
What last year’s leaders thought of the programme
“I have learnt a lot of different rules in various sports and how to coach whilst centering around participants abilities”
“The SLA experience has given me much more confidence and cooperation skills”
“I am now more confident when talking to new people”
"The SLA has given me a lot of experience I can call on in the future, it has grown and developed my skills and passion for sport itself"
“I learned a lot about leadership and how to handle a role itself”
“I can communicate better which will improve my ability to go out and talk to people more openly, instead of closing myself off and being perceived as shy"
