Dance Leadership Programme

Dance Leaders is an exciting leadership programme that empowers young people to develop the skills, confidence and experience needed to lead others through dance.

Delivered annually each June, the programme brings together young people from across Dundee City to develop leadership skills while working towards an SCQF Level 5 Dance Leadership qualification. Participants gain valuable experience in planning, organising and delivering dance activities within their school and local community.

Through a combination of practical workshops and hands-on leadership opportunities, young people develop a range of transferable skills including communication, teamwork, organisation, problem-solving and decision-making. The programme encourages creativity, promotes physical activity and helps participants become positive role models for their peers.

Whether supporting school events, leading lunchtime activities or delivering dance sessions to younger pupils, Dance Leaders make a real difference while building confidence and enhancing their future education, training and employment opportunities.

LEAD

LEAD is our main leadership pathway, supporting S4-S6 pupils to develop the skills, confidence and experience needed to lead, inspire and support others through sport and physical activity. Delivered over 20 weeks, the programme equips young people with transferable leadership skills including communication, teamwork, organisation, resilience and relationship building, while providing practical opportunities to plan and deliver activities within their school communities. By empowering young people to become role models and volunteers, the programme not only benefits the leaders themselves but also increases opportunities for younger pupils to participate in sport and physical activity.

To enhance the learning experience, we work with a range of specialist partner organisations that provide expert workshops and training throughout the programme. This year's partners included Planet Youth, Scottish Sports Futures, Dundee Dragons and the Insights Foundation, who delivered sessions on topics such as wellbeing, inclusion, personal development and community engagement.
